Much Ado Masks: Finished!

The Much Ado About Nothing masks are finished! Here is a collective picture, as well as a few that we've separated out for a closer, more detailed viewing. Each of these masks were made in the Venetian Style, a lighter, more ornate style of masks. Enjoy!

Masking Much Ado

Our current project tasks us with masking the cast of Rose of Athens' upcoming performance of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. This calls for a slew of Venetian style masks to fit the show's Renaissance atmosphere, from personalized party masks to masks for the big wedding finale! Pictures to come!

Donning the MasK!

Welcome to the official MasKings blog! Here we post our current project statuses, pictures of our work, information on our planned and unplanned performances and other stuff we may tackle.

The MasKings are J. Thomas Wynne III and Jacob Young, two actors with a passion for masked performances, be it Commedia dell'Arte, Greco-masks, puppetry and anything in between. We build all of our own masks, and we also build and sell a variety of masks. We are dedicated to providing a new yet ancient breed of entertainment through a revivification of masked performance.

The name MasKings comes from the use of masked actors and clowns to cover for scene transitions and accidents in larger productions. These covering actors effectively masked the more unattractive work onstage.
